Executive Management:
Miriam Garmaise - Executive Director
Miriam Garmaise has a
varied background and wide range of experience in the
areas of urban design, business and the non-profit world
allowing her a broad, multi-disciplinary view of the
issues and resources around her. Prior to joining
Shomera For A Better Environment, Miriam’s experience
included urban planning and design initiatives at Carr
Lynch Associates, Cambridge, MA; Arrowstreet,Inc.,
Cambridge, MA and Abeles, Schwartz & Associates, Inc.,
NY. Miriam also worked in marketing and product management at
Knoll International, NY and was marketing director at
Danish Interiors, Israel.
In 2001 Miriam joined
Shomera, where she held a variety of senior positions,
until being appointed Executive Director in September
2008. As Executive Director, she began directing the
organization towards forging proactive partnerships with
business, academia and government, thereby making Shomera a
catalyst for change and the betterment of life in
Israel.
Miriam holds a dual
Masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, in City Planning (MCP) and Architectural
Studies (MSARCHS). She was the recipient of a Central
Mortgage and Housing Corporation of Canada Scholarship
Award. Miriam is the founder and CEO of a company which
facilitates business development opportunites.

Amit Marom -
Founder
& CEO of MAROM Philanthropy & Business,
a boutique managing and consulting firm for
International philanthropic organizations & Business
opportunities for Israeli technologies.
Amit served for 14 years in principal command
positions in the Paratroopers & Special Forces Brigade
of the IDF, among them 2 years in the Pentagon,
consulting for the US DOD. After leaving the army, Amit
held the position of the international development
director at Elem - Youth at Risk for 3 years. Amit holds
a BA and an MBA in Business Administration, majoring in
finance and in marketing & human resources. He is
currently in the last year of his law studies.

– Gardening
Director
Tzachi has
been specializing in organic gardening since 1996.,is a
qualified as a gardener by the Ministry of Labor and is
certified in organic gardening. Tzachi is a member of
the Ministry of Agriculture steering committee on
ecological gardening. Since 2000 Tzachi has worked with
at-risk youth and people with special physical, mental
and emotional needs, including individuals who are blind
and autistic. He is completing his BA in psychology at
the Open University of Israel.

Amir is Managing Director and Co-founder of
AraZim-Consulting.
Amir holds a B.A in Political Science and Middle-Eastern
studies (graduated cum laude) and MBA from the
Ben-Gurion University. Amir also graduated from the
Merage Foundation for U.S-Israel Trade Executive MBA
Leadership program. He serves as an advisor and a guide
for Entrepreneurship & Business-Planning at Rupin
Academic Center. Amir is also a member of the board &
the Finance committee of Tel Aviv Stock Exchange listed,
ISSTA-Lines LTD (ISTAP).
David
Nordell
Michelle Kaplan-Green
Regional Coordinator for
the Sharon and Northern Israel for the Guidance and
Community Resource department, for Nefesh B'Nefesh.
Previously, Michele was a partner of Info-Access and
@The Source Israel, and ran the Community Aliyah Program
for Raanana, a joint program of the Raanana
municipality, the Ministry of Absorption and the Jewish
Agency. In the US, Michele worked in PR and Marketing at
UJA-Federation and later opened her own firm servicing
clients such as the Jewish Board of Family and
Children's Services (JBFCS) and the Anti-Defamation
League (ADL). Michele is a founder of Meitarim Raanana,
a Jewish pluralistic middle and high school, is involved
in the Raanana Networking Group, co-chaired the English
speaking Sharon area program for the Israel Women's
network and volunteered at the L.O. Combat Violence
Against Women's hotline.
Eli Shaharabany
Social Entrepreneur,
Strategic planner to NGO's and a Fundraiser. Having a
LLB at Law and learning for Master in Political science
at Tel Aviv University. Founder of 9 Amutot and social
projects in Israel among them "Du-Siach" - the movement
for better understanding between religious and
non-religious Jews; "Nachshon" - the first
secular pre-military academy for leadership;
"Poteach-Delet" - holistic program to empower young
woman at risk.
Shai Spetgang
Shai Spetgang is a
project developer and project manager in the CleanTech
space. Shai has marketed and managed the design, build,
own and operations of projects in Canada totaling 56 MW
of co/tri-generation energy production. Shai has
participated in Distributed Energy Generation projects
and Demand Response programs.
Shai has managed the Ontario Environment Industry
Association, interacting with over 500 companies in
Ontario and around the world. Shai has written
government grants for CleanTech companies. Shai has
consulted to the Israel Economic Mission in Canada to
assist Israeli CleanTech companies in their
participation in the Canadian CleanTech market. Shai, at
the request of the Canadian Government, has advised the
Government of Indonesia on the development of their
environment industry.
Shai has served as Executive Director of the Canadian
Environmental Markets Association whose objective is to
inform the Canadian business community of Clean
Development Mechanisms (CMD) related opportunities. Shai
is a founding board member of Canfei Nesharim, the
International Orthodox Jewish environmental educational
group and a past Chair of the Jewish Nature Centre of
Canada. Shai possesses a Bachelor’s of Environmental
Studies Honors degree from York University. Shai has
studied at the Arava Institute for Environmental
Studies.

CEO of Zamir Recognition
Systems Ltd. since 1998. Active in Israeli hi-tech
start-up companies since 1994, serving as co-owner and
Director of Lexicom Ltd., Managing Director of Navitek
Ltd. and Director of DoroTree Technologies Ltd. He
previously served in positions as Administrator, Head of
Human Resources and Head of the Organizations and
Methods departments at major Israeli health care
facilities including Shaare Zedek Medical Center and the
Hadassah Medical Organization. Mr. Jacobson holds a
degree in Informatics, Computer Science and Business
Administration from the University of Stockholm.

Professor Alon
Tal
Professor Alon Tal is deputy chair of
the Green Movement. Tal founded Adam
Teva V’din, the
Israel Union for
Environmental Defense in
1990, today largely considered Israel’s
leading environmental advocacy
organization. There he spearheaded
hundreds of campaigns and legal actions,
as well as legislative initiatives. He
also helped in the founding of Friends
of the Earth Middle East and the
Arava Institute
for Environmental Studies,
leading regional initiatives that bring
together Israeli and Arab
environmentalists. Between 1998-2003, he
served as chairman of Life and
Environment, expanding membership in
Israel’s green umbrella organization
from 24 to 80 environmental groups.
Recently, he was elected to the
international board of the Jewish
National Fund, where he now chairs the
committee that oversees forestry, river
restoration and development projects,
implementing a new agenda of
“sustainability” for the venerable
organization. Professor Tal is a faculty
member at Ben Gurion University and has
held appointments at Harvard University,
Tel Aviv University, the University of
Otago in New Zealand. In 2008, he was
awarded a life achievement award
by Israel’s Ministry of Environment as
party of the country’s 60th anniversary
celebrations.

Schwartz
The principal of "Michael
Schwartz & Associates", a 25 year old Jerusalem-based
firm of architects and planners, with a Tel Aviv branch.
The architectural practice has a broad base of clients,
both local and foreign, and works on a diversity of
projects. They have been the in-house architects of the
renowned American Colony Hotel for the last 15 years and
have developed a solid reputation in both historical
preservation and ultra-modern design.
Professional Assistance:
Yael
Kliers
Non-profit grantwriter,
editor, translator and writer. Yael holds a Masters
degree in English Literature from Bar-Ilan University,
and has worked as a professional grantwriter for Laurie
Heller and Associates, and for JDC (Joint Distribution
Committee). Her first book of folktales, The Wise Men
of Chelm, was published by Sefer Ve Sefel Publishing in
2002. Yael was an active member of Bustan Brody, one of
Jerusalem's first community gardens, and now enjoys
organic gardening in the yard of her new home in Elazar.
Dror Orbach
Dror Orbach is an
independent consultant and high-tech industry executive
with more than 25 years of experience working in both
large and small companies, including Accenture, Amdocs,
FIS and Earnix. As an independent consultant, Dror
assists companies in establishing clear business &
operational visions – and driving practical change
agendas to deliver them. Dror's academic qualifications
include an M.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in
Mathematics and Computer Science, both from Tel Aviv
University. He has lived in the US, South Africa, and
France in addition to Israel, is married, and has two
children.
